REporter | WRiter | Storyteller
I am a journalist based in Denver, Colorado.
Currently, I cover early childhood, child care and K-12 education for EdSurge, a national nonprofit news outlet. My stories about educators, young children and trauma have earned me a number of awards and recognition, including as a 2020 Livingston Award finalist and as the first-place winner for features (2021) and beat reporting (2023) by the Education Writers Association. My stories have been published in USA Today, The Associated Press, WIRED, Mother Jones and others.
My primary interests include education, equity, mental health and workforce issues, but I've also written about technology, medicine, religion, crime and politics. Really, I am comfortable covering almost any topic — I just like to talk to people about the things that matter to them most.
My best stories are those that recount the nuanced experiences of everyday people, whose personal narratives help to humanize broad, complex issues. (See here and here for examples.)
I grew up outside of Nashville, Tennessee, and attended college in Ohio, where I earned degrees in journalism and international studies. I am candid, sensitive and endlessly curious. Reach out and introduce yourself.
